La Casa de Gaitán

La Casa del Olivar

La Casa de Gaitán

It is placed in 4 “Plaza de Carmelitas Descalzos”, it is opposite the convent of the monks that gives name to the square, though this building is dated before the construction of the convent, in 1678, when the square was known as “Plazuela de Gaitán”. In that moment it was the usual residence of the Earl of Valdivielso.

In the building work of restoration, we could renovate the most significant traditional elements of the building, such a former cave in the basement connected to an old cistern of Arabic origin which, in turn, is connected with a well which curb can be observed in a side of the interior courtyard.

The courtyard is formed around four big columns of granite that were supporting the top stays of the house, and in which stairwell you can appreciate beautiful girders and wood balustrades recently discovered and restored.

All these elements form very intimate and very hospitable environment that show you the authentic Toledo´s tradition but at the same time, the house has been equipped with all the comforts of the modern life: air conditioning, individual heating, communal elevator, terrace and connection to the internet with ADSL by means of a WIFI net .

Between the Cobertizos and the Mosque of the “Cristo de La Luz” and very close to “Plaza de Zocodover” , the building is superbly located in the center of the old quarter of Toledo, in the more beautiful zone, the “conventual zone”, it was called like this due to the great concentration of former convents located there, which has allowed an excellent preservation of its environment, and this is the reason because many filmmakers have chosen this quarter to set the filming of many historical movies.

Birthplace the most beautiful legends, you will be able to go for a walk and to gain access easily to all kinds of establishments and museums located in its surroundings areas. For example, all the establishments and museums in “Calle Alfileritos” (a very famous Street) or in “Plaza de San Vicente”, where you can find “El Círculo de Arte” (an ancient church that presently is used to offer concerts, drinks and breakfasts), a lot of restaurants, monuments, pubs, variety shows, and so on.

You can park your car in “Plaza de Carmelitas Descalzos” (and you can arrive easily there from “Puerta de Bisagra” -and old gate in walls- and to going up the “Cuesta del Cristo de la Luz”) but “Carmelitas Descalzos“ is a very little Square and, due to the narrowness of the old quarter streets you can better choose the nearby parking of the “El Miradero” .
